During the past winter, watching all the turmoil taking place, I felt that something was needed in order to honor this planet that feeds us in every way. I handed in my name to the Green Party with the possibility of running federally, an odd thing to do perhaps but I was at a loss as to where my energy could help address the concerns I was feeling.
Thinking I could be on an advisory board or something like that, it came down to being a candidate after others stepped down. So I stepped up and here I am, in an election called early giving people less than a month to gather their thoughts in the middle of a very hot summer.
I have lived a pretty isolated, hidden life away from publicity and social media, nurtured by nature, family and close friends. Stepping out into the public is pretty fascinating with all its diversity, opinions, perspectives, wants and needs. It is an interesting ride with every kind of human condition and environmental issues coming up.
We are at a juncture in time for important change, evolving into our greater potential as humanity on an amazing planet. We have come together through global crisis, health and extreme climate conditions demanding a deeper examination of how our collective actions are affecting life on Earth. The seriousness of the situation is being spelled out by the United Nations and elsewhere with scientists, doctors, specialists and researchers telling us that we are on the wrong trajectory and must change.
So change we must and how is that to be done? Our choices, while we still have some, need to have a common denominator...what harm are we doing to others and to life on Earth? Short term profit at the expense of other life is taking us down a spiral that is out of control and needs to stop.
A circular economy that gives as well as takes is imperative. Unfortunately a great debt to the planet has been incurred and must be addressed. We need to re create, not wreck creation. It needs re-balancing, restoring, regenerative approaches and now we must start paying it back…. but that can bring a positive picture of sharing, caring, working together on beneficial, healthy programs that not only give back but create a healthy and happier world. We also need to protect the blueprint for future knowledge.
Fairy Creek Headwaters, Vancouver Island, B.C. (over 750 people have been arrested for trying to protect this last remnant of pristine forest).
We need fresh, clean, free flowing, oxygen generating waters, nourishing soils for healthy food, green flourishing forests and abundant oceans. This is all possible as the Earth teaches and creates the solutions. We need to learn from it, copy it, feel it, breathe it in and know that we are one...what we do to the Earth we do to ourselves. Everything is connected.
A green revolution all over the planet is needed and everyone must take responsibility and action to do their part….maybe then we may be worthy of inheriting this beautiful Earth.
Going Green...Politics and Life
There could be no finer candidate. A Green revolution is what we need! Rock on!
