Illegal actions by police and loggers are taking place
Where's the law for human rights?
Ecocide continues in British Columbia due to the logging of the last of the old growth forests. Illegal actions by government and violence by military police and loggers is ongoing with no recrimination. While whole log exports are being shipped out to China, government sanctioned harm against peaceful protestors is ongoing. Demonstrators following strictly peaceful actions to prevent and slow down the destruction of the last remaining stands of the ancient forests are enduring physical abuse and terror as government representatives are turning a blind eye to the injustices happening in the area as well as the injustice to the Earth, waters, forest and wildlife that depends upon these last remaining ecosystems.
While lawyers grind through the courts on behalf of the Rainforest Flying Squad, elders and media as well as others to attempt to get some justice…the violence goes on and old growth forests are being eliminated.
The following are just some of the illegal actions and human rights abuses taking place....
1. Arbitrary exclusion zones outside the injunction area that was designated by the courts have been set up regularly on public roads and public lands by the police and military.
2. Violent bodily assault on peaceful bystanders as well as protestors is ignored and condoned.
3. Destruction of property by hooligans and dumping of vehicles in remote areas by police is taking place and ignored.
4. Vehicles are attacked at night with shattered glass spraying people as they are sleeping in their cars and vans.
5. Youth under 16 are being hurt and manhandled by police and military.
6. Police are not telling the truth when questioned about people, vehicles or actions.
7. Prohibiting and disallowing media access to what is going on in public areas and at arrests by police is ongoing.
8. Police are using tarps and other methods to hide what they are doing to protestors at arrests.
9. Endangered species that have been observed by biologists in the area like screech owl nests and many other inhabitants of the rapidly disappearing old growth forests are ignored by government and industry.
All of these incidents and issues should carry penalties and in a civilized democracy would not be permitted. Peaceful protest is supposedly a right in this country. Where and what do our laws stand for?...Industrial greed it seems.
B.C. does not have any endangered species legislation principally due to the ongoing massive logging taking place throughout the province. Many threatened species of owls, salamanders, flying squirrels, woodpeckers, other birds, fish and plants as well as these forest giants are the last holdouts for so much that depends upon these forests for survival, humans included.
One cannot talk about climate change while allowing this kind of destruction to take place. There is Natural Law and as a species on this planet, we are doomed if this greed and destruction is not curtailed.
