The powerful West Wind makes me understand who and what is really in charge on this planet. "Unnerving" some call it. They say it literally blows away your energy, well I'm blown away by its power. The sound of the breaking seas is thundering and the wind in the old growth forest is fierce, but those trees were made for this....many over a thousand years old that have withstood the most violent storms. They are getting a good cleaning as moss, old branches and needles are flying down. They have the strength of the centuries and should be the ninth wonder of the world but sadly humans have allowed them to become commodities and entire ecosystems have been wiped out.
Sea Foam in the cove
It is the beginning of April and instead of a March lion coming in, it is an April one. Weather is whatever and what it will bring is the great unknown. Seas are supposed to reach 13 metres today, that is 36 ft. btw. I usually think 20 or 30 ft. seas are big… taller than my house, but it seems like they are about 50 ft. seas today. It is a good thing I am up on a cliff overlooking it. The skylights are rattling and the branches are scraping the house. I always hope the skylights don't fly off, one did once but got repaired and life carried on.
This sea foam is about 5 ft. deep in places
On a day like today, no one dares walk in the woods. "Widow makers" have that name for a reason. If you have ever seen some of those branches thrust into the ground like spears, it is astounding. So I stay inside, safe and warm for the moment, burning old growth wood (beach combed) that gives off lots of accumulated heat and lately I am making these hangings. I think nature creates the most beautiful forms. I like to emphasize that.
Abalone and glass ball hanging
Having lived here for over 50 years, I have been sincerely introduced to the four elements...wind, fire, water and earth. I have had seemingly life threatening encounters with them all and have great respect and appreciation for them. Without them, nothing would exist. I thank them daily and talk to them as if they were my allies for that would be a wonderful thing. I have seen old Mexican women patting the Earth during an earthquake, asking our Mother to be calm and gentle. That's what I do too. Well you would too in the face of the ferocity she is capable of. So be wary and aware as the power is not in our hands. Some people foolishly think they have greater powers and sadly they are delusional and can do great harm in that delusion. I am sure our collective consciousness affects her moods and disposition. Certainly fracking and bombing must but, in the face of it all, we are blips in time and ants in giants forests like grass. This planet gives us life along with sun, moon, stars and the galaxy. I treat it all with great respect and appreciation for it is our future and who we are. Hang in there and hold on.
